8/23/2013 Exploding Flowers w/ Nick Garrie, and Strangers Family Band

On Friday August 23, 2013 we will be playing with late 60's pop troubadour Nick Garrie. Nick Garrie's orchestral pop masterpiece "The Nightmare of J.B. Stanislas," originally released in 1969 and later reissued on Rev-Ola, Get Back, and Elefant Records during the mid-late 2000's, is one of those brilliant records that should have been as big as the Zombies "Odessey and Oracle" or the Left Banke's "Walk Away Renee," but due to bad luck with a label owner suicide, it criminally slipped through the cracks. He even toured with Leonard Cohen and had minor success in Spain. In recent years, Nick has made a comeback with the help of like-minded popsters Teenage Fanclub, BMX Bandits, and Camera Obscura. This will be Nick Garrie's first ever U.S. performance. We are thrilled to be playing with him. Also on the bill are the Strangers Family Band plus DJ Jimi Hey (Beachwood Sparks, All Night Radio, Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, etc..)The venue, HM157, is a victorian house in Lincoln Heights that is a California Historical landmark. It is a beautiful venue. Don't miss it. See you all there! For more info on the show click HERE

08/12/2012 Exploding Flowers w/ Young Prisms and Wymond Miles (Fresh & Onlys)

Sunday August 12 we will be playing Part Time Punks with Wymond Miles (Fresh & Onlys) and Young Prisms.

Here's what the PTP website has to say about it:

WYMOND MILES, best known as the guitarist for The Fresh & Onlys, has just released a superb 12" on Sacred Bones, "Under The Pale Moon," which has earned universal raves from the likes of Pitchfork, & Gorilla Vs. Bear. The record fuses dreamy Krautrock-esque soundscapes like something straight off the Brain label in Germany in the 1970s with remarkable songs ala' "Porcupine" era Echo & The Bunnymen, Nick Drake and 70s-era Beach Boys like "Surf's Up" and "Sunflower". Or, as Miles puts it: "Sonically the mood had to reflect the somberness of moving between the existential chaos of my 20s into this new perspective of living... The mysterious hues of the soundscape reflect a sense of curiosity and possibility in the canyons of sound."

Listen to WYMOND MILES.

YOUNG PRISMS made their LA debut at PTP back three years ago at the first MBV Nite (the same nite Weekend made their debut). Since then the band has released a handful of remarkable newgaze records on Mexican Summer, Big Love and Kanine and have toured with the likes of Weekend, Dum Dum Girls, Tamaryn, No Joy and Kurt Vile. Heads up, fans of MBV, Mazzy Star & Slowdive!

Listen to YOUNG PRISMS.

EXPLODING FLOWERS fuse layers of the Paisley Underground's rural psychedelia with Flying Nun fuzz and the psychedelicate song structures of Alex Chilton/Big Star. September gurls (and boys) should pack their knapsacks and head down early to hum along.

Listen to EXPLODING FLOWERS.
